Rummy Legal States in India — 2026 Guide
The Supreme Court of India has recognised Rummy as a "game of skill" — not a game of chance. This gives it stronger legal standing than many other gaming apps. However, some states have enacted their own restrictions on real-money gaming.
The Supreme Court Ruling
The landmark case State of Andhra Pradesh vs K. Satyanarayana (1968) established that Rummy is "a game of skill and not a game of chance." This has been reaffirmed in subsequent cases. This distinction is legally significant because games of skill are generally protected under Article 19(1)(g) of the Indian Constitution.
